In line with MAJI’s objective which is aimed at collecting P.M 1.0, 2.5 and 10 data, we deployed air quality sensing devices in sample locations across Rivers State.
MAJI proceeded to train community actors, CSOs and Media journalists with the aim of using the data collected by the installed air quality sensor boxes in the identified locations across Rivers State.
The MAJI project team has currently installed 10 cellularly configured (AIR-NOTES Devices) and 2 non cellularly configured air quality sensors – (MAPS V6.0 devices) in rural and urban communities located in upland and riverine areas of Rivers State. See weblink to installation map for the devices –

The SOOT project was developed to facilitate rural community inclusiveness in environmental protection, while also increasing the capacity of other stakeholders to effectively contribute to the development of policies and regulatory frameworks that will improve the overall environmental wellbeing of rural and urban communities. Adopting this approach, the project has received overall stakeholder acceptance and buy-in. The project consultation and introductory activities was strategically helpful as it provided the opportunity for key stakeholders to ask pertinent questions that improved the overall delivery of the project. This project builds on the gains achieved under the DATACAB project which was supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria under the PISCCA project, and has been expanded using support from the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) and the Open Culture Foundation (OCF).
